Dr. Ylan Nguyen, a former CIHR-funded PhD student, then PDF in the lab, is moving on to an industry job after spending 8 years with the Burrows lab. She made seminal contributions to our understanding of how type IV pilus assembly is primed by a set of minor pilins (winning a departmental Impact Award for her work) and uncovered many of their structures through X-ray crystallography. As a PDF she piloted a novel high throughput screen for inhibitors of pilus biogenesis that continues. She was a scientific and social leader in the lab and our departmental community and she will be deeply missed. We wish her much success and happiness in her new position!
